Grants Advice
Depending on the type of project you are looking to undertake, many of the solutions Morgan Cass (M&E contractor in Essex and London) offer are applicable for financial help. There are many grant and funding schemes out there and Morgan Cass can offer you guidance on what is available to you. Below is an overview of some of the various schemes.
Low Carbon Buildings Programme
The Low Carbon Buildings Programme is a DTI scheme established as part of their microgeneration strategy, and there are grants available for Householders (Phase one; Stream one), Businesses and SMEs (Phase one; Stream two) and Public and Charitable Organisations (Phase one; Stream two and Phase two).
Grants available for householders provide between 20% and 50% of the whole project, subject to maximum values, and depend on both the product and installer being accredited for the scheme. Applicants must complete a few energy efficiency measures before there are eligible, and Morgan Cass can help you with these.
Grants available to businesses are more competitive, and subject to a tendering process. It is advised that only exemplar schemes can expect to be successful. Those that are eligible for funding may receive:
Stream 2A – Small refurbishment projects / New buildings smaller than 1000 m2; up to £100 000 Stream 2B – Large refurbishment projects / Major new, low carbon buildings; up to £1 000 000
Technologies covered include solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, solar thermal, ground source heat pumps and wood pellet room heaters.
Enhanced Capital Allowances
The government run ECA scheme is available to businesses, and allows for the full cost of investment into a number of energy saving products to be written off against the taxable profits for the same period during which the investment was made.
There are 14 eligible technologies, including lighting, heat pumps, solar thermal systems, pipework insulation and boiler equipment, and within these technologies is a list of eligible products, the cost of which can be claimed in the tax return, in the same way as other capital allowances.
Morgan Cass is a m & e contractor and can advise you on ECAs and help to make sure that your project implements approved manufacturers and products, ensuring that you will be able to claim back the capital costs.
Interest-free energy loans for SMEs
The Carbon Trust are offering interest-free loans from £5000 to £100 000 to small or medium sized businesses for the purchase of energy saving or renewable equipment, which could help you to fund your investment into products and solutions.
The loans are available through the government backed Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme, and are available unsecured for up to 4 years with no arrangement fees.
